[00:02:31] When you start your business, if you haven’t studied and maybe gone to university or had a career in business, marketing, sales, et cetera, it can be really, really difficult to get your first or next three clients. And so often people feel like they’re doing something wrong, but fundamentally, it’s not a skill that you are born with.
[00:02:53] So if you have not developed that skill in your your life thus far, [00:03:00] Marketing, selling and actually getting those first or next few clients in and signed up with you can be really, really difficult. And I just wanna say, first of all, if that’s you, it’s okay that you don’t know what you’re doing, okay? You are not supposed to, as I say, by some magic.
[00:03:17] Say I’m starting my own business because I love doing what I do, and I’m going to learn how to market, sell, everything else that comes with running a business just like that. It’s just gonna happen for me. Okay? It’s okay. I give you permission to be kind to yourself. I am that person that has never been kind to myself, people.
[00:03:38] Said to me, you’re so hard on yourself. Um, throughout my life, throughout my working life and career, uh, and I am so, you know, something I’ve been really practicing is, is being kind to myself and I’m sharing that with you to say, give yourself, you know, give yourself a break. It’s okay. And if you follow me on this podcast, then well, there are so many episodes that [00:04:00] I’ve given you lots of insights onto how you can start or how you can get more clients, how you can grow your.
[00:04:06] And so on and so forth. But let’s just focus on the first three clients or if you’ve worked with one or two clients, but maybe not got any at the moment, how do you get those next few clients in? Well, let’s talk about the different options of how you can actually get the knowledge, get the skills, uh, and take the action to get those.
[00:04:28] So here are the options. You can buy a do it yourself course that takes you through the steps of how to get clients, which can be awesome. But here I ask you if you do that and there’s something in there that doesn’t feel good to you or isn’t working for you, who do you turn to to share that with and ask for support?
[00:04:49] Well, if you have bought, do it yourself. Of course, there’s not often anyone there. Giving you that support to talk this through in more detail and more depth to help you [00:05:00] move past that, that block that you’ve arrived at. The other thing here is we can buy courses, but do we actually do them? Do we complete them?
[00:05:08] The completion rate for a do it yourself course is around one to 3%. That’s really, really low. That’s how many people start the course and actually finish it. So I ask, you know, are you that person that can do that? If you absolutely are, then that’s fantastic. Go for that, because it’s normally a very cheap option for.
[00:05:30] From my experience though, what most people of starting out need is support. They need accountability. They need someone to help them focus on the right steps to take and the right order to take them in that are gonna have the most impact in the fastest amount of time. Okay. Because right now, you know as a business owner, your priority is probably getting in some revenue and getting in some clients.
[00:05:55] Otherwise, you have a very expensive hobby. Okay? The next option, so number two is [00:06:00] you can go straight in and invest in a one-to-one. Business coach. I have done this myself because I know I love that support. I love having someone on tap on demand. To say, on demand. Yeah. But there at the end of a phone, you know, at the end of a box or at the end of a slack message to be able to respond to me within usually 24 48 hours to help me work through what’s.
[00:06:23] Coming up for me. And that has been the most pivotal thing for me throughout my career. I’m not just talking in my coaching business, but going back, you know, some, well, 19 years since I, I started business and I had my first coach about three, two to three years in after starting my first ever business.
[00:06:38] And I’ve never looked back because, and I’ve always invested in coaches just cuz I know how impactful it can be. But here’s the thing, when you’re starting out, it can be. Big financial commitment to have a one-to-one coach, and sometimes that’s just not possible. Now, for you, you might be that kind of person that says, well, actually that’s okay because for me, I [00:07:00] know that if I get that support, I’m gonna make that money back.
[00:07:03] No two ways about it. I’m gonna make it work. Okay? So that might be you, myself. That’s how I sort of am programmed. One of my peers, Gemma Gilbert, she was the same, which was like, I’m gonna invest. I’m gonna invest a big sum in a one-to-one. So I know what to do. I know how to get going. I know how to start.
[00:07:20] I’m running my business and I’m gonna make my money back. And she did. So, you know, there are people that go in with that mindset, but there are other people that say, do you know what? I just can’t justify that bigger. At such an early stage in my business, and so I say to you, that’s okay too. You know, you don’t have to, your business will not fail because you don’t do that.
[00:07:42] There’s a third option as well, which is you can enroll in a group program. So what is a group program? Well, this is where you have usually like a weekly group coaching call. You will have access to a community, the community. On something like I use Slack, it could be a Facebook [00:08:00] community. There are, uh, many different platforms that that could be hosted on.
[00:08:04] So you have access to a community, so you don’t have access to a coach every week and every day. Within that community or that team, the coaches team. And then the other thing there is there will often be a pre-recorded content pathway for you or some way of accessing some learning and resources to take you through step by step.
[00:08:25] Um, so a bit like a course, a bit like a course, but with coaching attached. So they are the three options, but again, with a group program, it can, um, bring an extra cost with it because you’re getting a lot of support in. Day to day, week to week, and you’re getting access to really high value content pathway that is helping you reach a specific outcome.
[00:08:45] Now, I love a group program and I also love one-to-ones, which is why for my business, I decided to kind of put the two things together because I loved the community aspect. My clients love the community aspect that come with the, the [00:09:00] group coaching calls, the access to a community. But also what they love is the one-to-one.
[00:09:05] They’re having me kind of on hand, on tap, um, and also having access to me to go really deep with them on a one-to-one call every single month. So that’s why I created Accelerate My Core program because it kind of was the best of both and it lit me up as a coach. Anyway, I digress slightly there. It’s so very easy in the early days to get stuck on what are the things that are actually going to get me clients as soon as possible.
[00:09:35] Do I create a website? Do I set up a Facebook group? Do I write a blog? Do I start a tick channel? What are those things that are gonna get me clients? A ssap. Well, this is where I’m here to tell you actually, you don’t need to be doing all of those things at the very beginning to get your first three clients or your next few clients.
[00:09:55] Why? Well, setting up your own Facebook group, TikTok page, all of those things, they [00:10:00] all take time, okay? They all take time to grow your own audience, grow your own following, and build trust. So what do you wanna do? You want to leverage other people’s audiences. You want to leverage. Own existing network.
[00:10:12] Okay, but what else? What about all the other things that you think you need to do? Websites, graphics, all of those kind of things that you feel you should be doing? Well, here’s the thing. What if you just focused on the things that are really going to shift the needle for you? You might be screaming, but I don’t know what they are.
[00:10:33] Okay, so let’s talk about what are the three things that are gonna shift the needle for you in your business? So right now you’re probably saying, right, the first thing is Bev. I don’t know how, like, I don’t know what to say. To people to get them, like to get leads, to get people to raise their hand and say, I’d like to have a call with you, Viv, or I’d like to find out more about what you do.
[00:10:55] So you are, right now, you’re probably struggling like with what to say and how [00:11:00] to attract the right people and how to attract them into taking action. So maybe your messaging just doesn’t zing. So, but if you are a new business and you haven’t worked with many clients yet, messaging can be hard, but we need.
[00:11:14] Stand out in the noisy online world. Okay? And that means no more like being in one of many vanilla options for your ideal clients. You gotta stand out and that’s the first thing that we have to do. It’s that positioning. Okay? Getting clear on messaging, it shifts the needle and getting more eyes on your business.
[00:11:32] Okay? And really speaking to the transformation that you help people achieve so often. . I hear people talking about like the deliverables, like, oh, you gotta get three sessions, da, da, da. People don’t buy that. They buy the result, the transformation. Okay. We want you to go from being like the best set kept secret to the head turner.
[00:11:53] So that’s the first thing. Okay. Messaging and understanding and being clear on what to say to get [00:12:00] people to respond to you, to raise their hand, to pay attention, and to know that you. Okay. Problem number two is, yeah, you are like the world’s best kept secret. You don’t know how to get in front of your ideal clients right now.
[00:12:16] Okay? Once you’ve got really confident with your messaging and how to kind of attract people that way, we’ve gotta get you visible and get you shouting about that message far and wide. But there are different ways of doing this and what works for one. Doesn’t work for another, or may not work for another.
[00:12:34] And it’s really important to understand that there are about a squillion different ways. Okay. Slight exaggeration with a squillion, but there are many hundreds of different ways to market and get visible in your business. Without social media, I might add. And finding the right one for you is crucial in getting those next clients, okay?
[00:12:54] But as I’ve said, we want to leverage your existing audiences and networks, and [00:13:00] you will be surprised, you might say, but I don’t have anyone. I don’t know anyone. It will surprise you when you get down to do this activity, actually. Who is in your world and who is in your. But this is where it’s about being very focused and very specific.
[00:13:15] Okay. About who you wanna work with, the transformation you want to get people so people can self-identify or refer. It’s the referability test. Here’s what you do. You tell someone what you do. They can say, oh my gosh, that’s just me. Wow, you’re in my head. Or Oh my gosh, that’s such and such. That’s, that’s my brother Joe.
[00:13:34] And he needs you from what you’ve said, you know, absolutely. They can see how what you do, that there’s somebody in their life or you are that person that needs that help. It’s really, really clear. So getting super focused on visibility, okay. And not shying away from it. It is the thing that’s. So many people avoid cuz it feels difficult and it feels uncomfortable.
[00:13:58] And I just want to say, [00:14:00] you know, yes, I absolutely believe we should be doing things that bring us joy and feel good to us. But we have to be aware that in business sometimes we have to do things that don’t feel as comfortable. I’m not saying it should feel icky and sleazy, that’s a very different thing.
[00:14:15] That is something that I don’t believe you should be doing. But sometimes when things feel. It’s because it’s new, it’s unknown, and we, we have like fear around those things. So we may feel like rejection. So visibility, there’s such a big thing around fear of rejection from people. What if people say, no, what if I reach out, da, da, da, da, and it, it’s terrifying.
[00:14:37] And this is where we have to bring in discipline. Okay? Discipline to do. And push ourselves away from that comfort zone, away from that fear and do it anyway, because we know that that is what is going to shift the needle. Okay? But it has to be in a way that is aligned for you, because if it’s not, you’re [00:15:00] not gonna do it.
[00:15:00] If you’re an introvert, though, I get it. You’re probably saying like, oh my God. But the thought of you saying jump on a stage and give a presentation is horrific. That’s what I mean about an aligned way. Do not do things that are so exhausting and draining for you that they are not going to work. You’re not gonna be able to energetically maintain doing those things.
[00:15:22] What you have to think is energetically, once I’m into this, does this feel good? Okay. Um, but this is where willpower and discipline are different. Okay, problem number three that you’re having is you’re probably not getting enough sales calls and conversations lead to conversions, as you will hear me say time and time again.
[00:15:41] So we want you to be having more conversations. Now, here’s the thing. You might be getting people into conversations, but you are not successfully converting or you are just not getting anyone onto an actual sales call. So we have to work on getting you very confident in selling your offer and feeling [00:16:00] confident because sales is 95% about your confide.
[00:16:05] Okay, 95% of sales is confidence. So we want to really look at how to generate hot leads and how to then convert those. So what are the three key elements of a successful sales call that actually convert? So those are the big areas that you need to be focusing on. If you are early on in your business. Do you need a pre-recorded content pathway?
[00:16:31] No, you do not. Do you just need someone to help you get really focused on the key areas that I’ve just mentioned and get you taking action every week and holding you accountable and challenging you, and being a sounding board if you’re feeling stuck. Hell yes. This is where it’s so important to have access to somebody who has been there, done it, and.
[00:16:55] What actions are going to shift the goal post for you and who can [00:17:00] keep you accountable, who can hold you, support you, and help you move forward with some focused activities. You don’t need to consume a lot of content at this stage. Get clients, make sure what you’ve got, your offer works, and then. Start to invest in some programs that help you develop your offerings and create consistent revenue.
[00:17:21] But first off, before we look to consistent rev revenue, we want to create some revenue. And that’s what this is all about. So, and if this is you and you’re thinking, yeah, I am really stuck. I do not know how to get these first three clients, or these next three clients, and I just need someone. In my corner, you know, giving me a kick up the bot every week and holding me accountable.
[00:17:45] Having someone there who totally gets the mindset, fuck that is running a business and being an entrepreneur, then I’m gonna make an invitation to you. I have created a new offer.
